Enabling anonymous ftp server Linux/Wkst

By servicio.herrera ·
I have a RedHat 7.0 workstation and I would like to enable an anonymous ftp server. When i make a connection to my workstation via ftp, i get the message " connection refused by server"
What do I have to do?

It's not clear from your question whether you already have an FTP server up and running and just need the anonymous part or whether you need the whole thing.

If you already have an FTP server up and running, you probably just need to install theanon-ftp rpm.

1.refused mean you don't have ftp service runnig. so check your /etc/xinet.d/ftp .

2.you don't have anon-ftp installed maybe.
use rpm -ivh anon-ftp*.rpm
to install it.

Also, check the anonftp file in /etc/xinetd.d. Perhaps it has disable = yes.

An alternate method is to run ntsysv and select anonftp as the service to be started by the boot process.

It depends on what kind of FTP server you have installed ie. Wu-FTPd, ProFTPd, or the OpenBSD FTPd port. Each has it's own way of configuring anonymous FTP. The anon-ftp RPM helps in creating a /home/ftp directory plus the relevant directories so that anonymous ftp can be chrooted to /home/ftp/.

All of the above FTP servers come with reasonable documentation to set up anonymous ftp.

For WU-FTPd, make sure that 'user' ftp is not listed in /etc/ftpaccess
