since this came up as a hot sub topic in discussion about disposal of obsolete equipment, figured why not actually start a discusion for it.
post links to local resources for it, links to pending legislation…

I have to agree that the whole recycling thing is not what it’s cracked up to be. The only reason that manufacturers jump on the recycling bandwagon is for PR reasons. Their objective is the same – sell more product = consume more resources.

that people will site a partisan “think tank” as a source of credible unbiased information.

          You’re attacking the messenger. . .

          .
….(Cato and Maxwell), not the message.

Why not try to show one thing in that article that is incorrect?

          In their own words:

“The Cato Institute seeks to broaden the parameters of public policy debate to allow consideration of the traditional American principles of limited government, individual liberty, free markets and peace. Toward that goal, the Institute strives to achieve greater involvement of the intelligent, concerned lay public in questions of policy and the proper role of government.”

Of course you wouldn’t like the Cato Institute. You are an advocate for BIGGER government, DENYING individual liberty, GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED markets and SURRENDER in the face of an enemy.

      freecycle

a yahoo group where giving away only allowed.
computers and components are always in demand on these groups.

they are broken into regional groupings, so search yahoo groups for freecycle, then search for your local area ( city / town )

here, there are dozens of community / seniors centres that love any old computer.

We have a charity called ‘Computers for Schools’ they have a warehouse full of equipment that they distribute among the various charities accordingly.

Some old man swings by and makes a living off of bringing the dead equipment to a recycling depot, a chop-shop (so to speak), and a few other places.
