    Erasing Porn

    Locked

    by pzhamilton ·

Porn websites are continually popping up on a Win 98 PC with a cable connnection. I have erased a number of .exe files but after a few days there are sites in it’s own favorites folder. How do I eraase and check for porn on this computer? He did not have a firewall installed and says he did not access any porn at all. Maybe the teens have accessed and possibly downloaded a dialer. Not sure, need suggestions.

Go there and download Ad-Aware, the anti-spyware program. They probably have some porn spyware running on it that makes the popups come up.

Install and run Ad-Aware. That should fairly well clean things up.

      hope this helps

I agree with Joseph that running AdAware is a good start.

After AdAware is finished, check for any suspicious programs in task manager, and the startup section of msconfig.

You might even want to check the legacy system files (autoexec, config, system, win) for suspicious programs.

After that, install and configure a firewall for him.
The free version of Zone Alarm works well.

Next, make sure that the PC is up to date on security updates from Microsoft.
CAUTION: make sure that there is an updated driver available for the video card before installing either IE6 or DirectX 9.

The porn links may have come in from installing a free-ware program, or from infected files from one of the peer to peer file sharing networks.

While my daughter is upset about it, I finally convinced her to stay off of the peer to peer networks. We have had fewer problems with our PC since she stopped using the networks.

Come to think of it, if there are peer to peer downloads on the PC, playing the file may re-infect the PC.

i completely agree with my friends….
AD Aware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com is the most recommended one…

      …and spybot’s search and destroy…from..

      security.kolla.de

and another bhocop bascially a pcmagzine utility also available from

      http://www.thehun.com/articles/bhocop

are the other two recomended one..

spybot…has options which monitor and protect the home page hijacking…

and bho cop is a utility which keeps tab on renegade or improperly written browsers helper objects so abundant on the net…

      hope it helps..

Try writing down the website addresses of these porn sites, i.e., http://www.hotsex.com and others. If you are using internet explorer open it up, click Tools menu, Internet Option, Security Tab, Click Restricted Sites Icon, Click Sites Tab, then enter the annoying porn sites one at a time, click OKAY.

I use the program Spybot. You can get it here.

You need to update your virus protection and run a scan on your drive.

Another tool you need to download is Karens Cookie Viewer.

      http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptcookie.asp

This utility will list the cookies on your machine and tell you who they report to. It also allows you to delete them.
