ERP for IT?

By adpdpmisisit ·
I've spent a lot of years searching for and dreaming about a comprehensive, and easy-to-use system to manage all facets of IT business operations. So far, all that exists are autonomous packages that control one or two specific areas, and do not link with anything else.

If you're interested in being part of creating an ERP for IT, please let me know. This is something we all need and would all use, if its properly conceived.

All Encompassing Solutions

by Oldefar In reply to ERP for IT?

There are some interesting articles on how modularity is now becoming a market requirement for ERP. In particular, SAP, Oracle, and Siebel. There is an article on this in today's TR, and it was the focus of a presentation I attended last week.

The problem is with Truman's Triangle - Good, Fast, Cheap. Pick two. A package that met your concept would either be Good and Fast, or it would be Fast and Cheap. By the time a Good and Cheap version could be developed, it would be obsolete I suspect.

Try changing your approach. Business objectives and business requirements driving technical objectives. Don't lock in on a single package approach, but rather on a consolidated output. The solution will likely be found in a common databasestructure or a harvesting report generator.
