Error in Excel

By Grit611 ·
Hello, Please help. When I open Excel, it comes up with this error: "Excel has caused an error in ms09.dll Excel will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer." I've restarted and receive the same message. I have even removed office and reinstalled it. I then deleted my temp files, Temporary Internet files and cleared history. I still receive this error when opening Excel. Does anyone have a solution?

Try doing the following:

Rename the Mso9.dll file, and then use Add/Remove Programs to repair Excel. You can rename it to something like Mso9.old.

If you need help with this, please go to www.technet.com and type Q306400 in the search field.
Good luck

I did rename the mso9.dll to mso9.old and then did a repair. The repair loaded mso9.dll again and still have the same error.

Your ms09.dll file on your Disc could then be corrupt. The only real way to test this would be to either try a new Office 2000 Disc, or take the ms09.dll file from one computer that does work and transfer it to your machine. Email me if you would like me to assist you with this. Other than that, I have no other ideas for you.

I realize you have probably either solved or given up but ....
Locate and rename the file excel.xlb to a holding name. This file has start-up parameters for Excel. Excel can start without it and will generate a new one. However, if it is corrupted Excel will not start. I have received various messages due to a corrupted excel.xlb.
