ERROR: JAVA_HOME not found in your envir

Depending on how you installed tomcat. If you installed the RPM on a RedHat system, there is a config file in /etc/tomcat3(4) that will let you set JAVA_HOME. If you installed from source, you can set it in /etc/profile.

Add the line:

export JAVA_HOME=/path/to/javadir

I use a symbolic link in /usr/local called java pointing to my javadir and set JAVA_HOME to /usr/local/java. This way I can change versions of java easily.

also add to your path $JAVA_HOME/bin

You'll know when you have it right by running java -version.
