By addison99 ·
On booting Windows 95 SR2 I get a message

c:\windows\system\vmm32\ntkern.vxd

This error comes on before I get to windows in the DOS section when booting.
The Pc seems to work ok.

Error on booting

Well The only thing I can say is it is used on your USB port. It is on the CD under <drive>other\usb. It might be loaded if you installed USB support. Find out where it is loading, ie: Config.sys, autoexec.bat, System.ini and Rem it out. Should fix it. Good luck

It could be happening cause of two things:
1. USB functionality on your pc
2. There is an issue with win95 and certain processors (amd k6-2 350, athlon) KB Q192841

To determine the version of the Ntkern.vxd file installed on your computer, right-click the Ntkern.vxd file in the Windows\System\Vmm32 folder, click Properties, and then click the Version tab. If the version number is not 4.03.1213, you should obtain and install a new version of the update, as described below. Note that the version of the original Ntkern.vxd file is 4.03.1212.

As above, check Autoexec.bat and config.sys. Boot to the safe mode. Try to pinpoint ? why do you have this massage? Did you install any programs? Did you make any changes to your configuration?
Work "around" ? reinstall Win95.
