Error Uninstall Norton Internet Security

By mmclaug1 ·
Hardware = Compaq (probably 5 years old)
OS = WIN98 Second Edition
+ Uninstall option of Norton Internet Security Professional 2002 does not work. Error window says supervisor access needed.
+ Install new Norton Internet Security Professional 2004 not allowed because user does not have supervisor access. Application is WIN98 compatible.
+ Default user logon. No password or users set up.
+ Supervisor access selection of application disappears after opening security area.
+ Old application quit working after user downloaded new application and attempted install.
+ What is the solution for removing the old application and installing the new application?

Thank you,

Log in under an Admin account. Then run MSCONFIG go to the startup tab and uncheck everything from Norton's\Symantec. Reboot the machine. Then go to ADD\Remove programs and remove norton\symantec. Then reboot again. And install the program.

Great advice, but did not work. Followed instructions to the letter. Cannot remove Norton Internet Security Professional 2002. Computer is still calling for a Supervisor Access. Even tried creating a new user, but don't see any option to request Supervisor Access. Open to more suggestions.

Symantec has manual uninstall instructions and auto uninstall programs that can be downloaded from the site.

Thanks RCOM. Used the 'To remove previous versions of Norton Internet Security, Norton Personal Firewall or Norton AntiVirus' solution. The Rnav2003.exe removal utility worked like a Champ!
