Establishing Policies and Procedures

By jeo ·
i have what you would think would be a simple question. Where can an IT manager look to for guidance when he wants to establish IT policies and procedures? I'll explain.

I work for a non-profit homeless shelter which is growing by leaps and bounds, hence so is their support staff and the pc enviroment. However, they have never had an IT department before, right now im a one man department, and don't have any policies regarding quality assurance, handling calls, internet policies, securitypolicies etc... Now obviously I can come up with policies but I would rather use some sort of guideline(s) rather than just "shooting from the hip" so-to-speak.

If you would like, e-mail me and I'll help you with samples, ideas, etc. as much as I can. :)
I have been through this with a few non-profits and for-profit social work organizations.

John,

I too have been in this situation. I would be happy to share my experiences. Alternatively you could try posting at www.citg.org.uk. The members are IT Managers in Charity, and NFP's so there is direct relevance.
