By MalcolmG ·
I cant get EB to run when I log in as myself - its OK as Root and as the test user account, but when I log into my own account EB fails to start - I downloaded and updated to the latest version but still no luck. I has worked in the past but I am not aware of changing anything - suggetions please

Looks like you don't have the same permissions to the EB files that the test user has, may be either group or individual.
Check if your login is a member of the same group as the test user account. If you compiled and installed the program to its normal location (/bin or /usr/bin) you should still have access but often the default location is elsewhere and your login may not have access there.
Alternative is to find the program's location and give the full path when you run it. ie /usr/share/eb/everybuddy...

Enjoy, Linux IS great....

The user permissions are OK, as I said I have not changed anything, the icon on the bar starts as if EB is starting up then dissapears - I have not added or changed anything since I last had it working.
No question about Linux though it is rather good
[ British understatment you understand ;-)]

When running from a terminal window I get an 'segmentation error' message, I am not sure what this is exactly though. I had to remove the files from the Everybuddy folder in my home dir, start EB then replace my contacts and preferences, its fine again now, confused a friend when I MSG'd him on both ICQ and IM withour running either, "I'm impressed, I am going to have to check out Linux very soon" he said :-)
