Everybuddy & S.u.S.E. V7.2 Personal

By MalcolmG ·
I have just upgraded to SuSE V7.2 Personal and I find that if I enable the Firewall Everybuddy will not work. I can switch it off from the control center 'modem' and EB is fine but I am not sure if I am still protected - I have checked against test sites and still get the OK that I am 'invisible' can anyone advise me as to whether I can safely leave the firewalle switched off or edit the config file to allow EB to communicate please ?

Hi,

Its possible that your firewall may be making mistakes because you are packetfiltering on both sides, at your lan side and at the public side. When you stop the firewall you become "visible" with your network, because you are not filtering the packets of your lan and the addresses are reaching the internet. You have to check out the firewall configuration so that the lan packages don't reach de internet, that is called masquerading on other versions. That filtering changes the lan sideip addresses overiding them with the external address at the internet side. Be shure you have installed all the networking packages, and security packages to do this task correctly. You have to read the rc.firewall file as well the rc.config. These two files have comments to guide the user when you are changing the default configuration. Remember to review the suse portal for more information.

Good luck !
