Excel 2000

In Excel 2000 there is a default setting to update remote references. If you go into Tools, Options and the Calculations tab, you can uncheck the box to change it, but you cannot "save" the change. Anyone know of a way to change this default and get it to stay that way?

This is really one of the "I can't believe it's true" "features of Excel.
As far as I can determine, the only way to do this is with a dummy workbook.
Links get updated before the code is run, so you have to use this outside the "real" Workbook.
Create a Workbook named "Microsoft-Folly" (or whatever). Copy and paste this code into a macro substituting the name of the "real" Workbook.

Value Meaning
0 Doesn't update any references
1 Updates external references but not remote references
2Updates remote references but not external references
3 Updates both remote and external references

'Here's the Code
Sub Auto_Open()
Workbooks.Open filename:="MyRealworkbook.xls", UpdateLinks:=0
Thisworkbook.close
End sub
'End of Code

Make the changes to Personal.xls and resave this file. Next time you start up the changes should be there.
Good Luck!
