Excel 2000 cell character limit

Having a problem with Excel 2000 that I’ve been unable to resolve via Technet and other technicians. Copied a large paragraph from MS-Word into a cell in an Excel spreadsheet. The total number of characters is about 1257. However, only 1107 characters display in the cell when on the screen and only 1093 print out. The entire text shows in the formula bar when I click on the cell. I can adjust cell height, but not width due to the layout of the spreadsheet. As I increase the height of the cell I get white space but the text does not appear.

How can I get all the text to appear on the screen and in print out? I do not want to reduce font size.
