Excel 2002, formula with text

By wemlips ·
I'm trying to write a formula in which text that is in column a will be sent to column d. I have the initials "NS" and "CA" if these show up anywhere in column a I would like it to show up in the same row but in column d. HELP!! Everything I've tried has failed. I've tried conditional formatting without any success.

Not what I'm trying to acheive

Hey there,
I looked up the sites that you suggested however what I'm trying to do is actually write a formula that would transpose some of my information to another row. Here is an example of the formula that I tried working with:
=IF(B3="CA","CA",IF(B3="NS","NS"))
What is suppose to happen is that if for example Cell B7 has the initials "CA" in it I want "CA" to appear in Q7. When I write my formula using Conditional Formatting it accepts it as a valid formula, however my text, "CA" and "NS" are not showing up. When I'm through this file is going to be thousands of entry long and I cannot copy/paste that many entries. Thanks for any and all help!!

Hi again, from SUNNY/HOT AND HUMID, Florida!!!:) Hope everything is going well for you way.... up there in FINLAND. I finally reliazed why, apparently Excel does not allow the transfer of text in it's IF formula, so now I just need to figure out how I'm going to fill the cells with their required text, without having to copy/paste everyone individually. Any ideas? The only thing I can think of is using the CHAR function that converts numbers into text.

I hope this works for you. Yes the weather is fine at the moment in Finland, a little bit too warm for time of year though, it should be just above zero. But at the moment it is in the +3 and +9 range.

The information on the file is just overwelming for me. I'm just looking to write a simple formula that would allow certain cells in Excel to be populated with text(non numeric) from another cell. I appreciate all your help. :)

Thanks!!

CHAR Function in Excel..

=Char(A1) would return "v"
=Char(A2) would return "@"
=Char(72) would return "H"
=Char(109) would return "m"
