Excel 2003

Random problem sometimes corrected by shutting down and re-starting computer. (XP Prof.)
Problem with excel 2003. Any movement of Cursor causes cells to merge. only way to stop is ctrl,alt,del 2 or 3 times until closedown prog. dialogue appears.
