Excel 2007 templates getting corrupted after editing...

Have Excel templates on a network drive. Users make a copy of the document, complete it on a tablet and the completed version is sent to another folder via SyncToy. So users are working with a worksheet based on the template NOT the template
What is happening is that when the template is edited (and these are basic forms - no validation, conditional formatting, macros) the following message comes up..
See attached screenshot.
This has happened more than once. The fix at the moment has been to rename and resave the template but I'd be concerned that it would happen again (and again) and would like your advice with the following..
1. Are there any Excel recovery tools you would recommend (there are about 30 files in question)?
2. What would you recommend as good practice to keep this to a minimum?
3. Am thinking of porting all the documents over to Word (there's been no problems with the Word documents)

As always thank you.

Excel file repair

by pearsonjoseph301 In reply to Excel 2007 templates gett ...

Excel file repair tool retrieves the contents of the damaged Excel file and saves the recovered data as a new workbook, while the source Excel file remains unaffected. Of course, something can get irretrievably lost, but Excel Repair Tool is sure to recover as much significant data as possible, including the exact style and formatting of tables (width, height and color of the cells and borders), fonts, number formats, functions and name references.
