Excel

When I open Excel now it tries to open word documents and gives me an error message. for example (dmc.sup.eval.2004.doc: file format is not valid) The folder I point to has word, excel, and even powerpoint documents but only excel gives me an error everytime I open it. Was wondering if anyone has run across this problem?
