Excel chart type

By Lord Foul ·
i have the following data in a spreadsheet:

ANNA $79,875.00 F
JENNY $5,668.00 F
LEANNE $4,678.00 F
JENNY $5,678.00 F
CHRIS $56,578.00 M
FRED $45,668.00 M
JEREMY $34,389.00 M
JOHN $67,909.00 M
PAUL $67,884.00 M

I would like to create a (bar?) chart that represents the above data and shows the Male(M) and Female(F) data as 2 different colours on the same bar of the chart.

It's not at all clear what you want to plot or chart. What point are you trying to make with this data? Do you want to sum up the male and female salaries and compare the totals? If so, use the SUMIF function to get the male and female totals.

Sorry 'bout the delay answering. Sumif worked and created for me a single stack bar chart that compared the male vs female comparison

what you are looking for is a Stack Bar chart. you will get a chart with totals of M and F in two different colours

Step 1 : create a pivot table using this info...
Group by "SEX" and Sum "WAGES"

Step 2 : select the pivot and click on chart. Select the stack chart - that should do the trick.
