excel file opening problem

By mgopalak ·
When I try to open any Excel File (Office 2003), I get the following message. I uninstalled the Office 2003 and reinstalled it. Even then the same problem is occurring. The word and Power point docs are opening correctly. I also used the ?Always open with? process for the excel file. Even then the problem is repeating. Please advise.

?Windows cannot find<file name>. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. ?

I think it was

"Windows cannot find. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

For which the quotes were replaced by question marks (and followed at a distance, I guess).

Usually when I see "cannot find" with nothing after it, it means no filename was entered.

Edit: From this I can't tell if Windows is looking for the document file, or executable file. Mentioning the file association makes me think that is corrupted, or there is a permissions problem. Or malware causing such. "Make sure you typed the filename correctly" makes me think something is missing in a text entry box for the doc name or path. Invalid characters?
