EXCEL FORMULAS

By rajivnarayanan@hotmail ·
when I divide (84/204)*100, in a cell I get the correct percentage. But for the same operation when the numerator becomes 1, the result is 0%.

How do I format the cell to reflect % such as 0.001% or 0.00001% ?

Go to the Format menu and select cells. Choose Percentage and increase the number of decimal places until you get the result you want.

-Enter the values that you are calculating
-Rightclick on that cell and click 'Format Cells'
-In the 'Number' tab, choose category as 'Percentage'; and on its right, increase the number of decimal places to reflect what you need - like '3' for 0.001% or '5' for 0.00001%

Cheers.

when I do so , for 3 I get say for e.g, 34.987% and for 5 I get 34.98723%. What I want is how should i format the cell or use a formula in such as way that (1/204)* 100 is reflected as 0.49% and not as 0%.

I am not 100% what your true question is but this may help.

for the operation =(1/204)
after you type this in right click on the cell and format cells, go to the bottom of the options where it say custome then type in the custom box 0.##% that will display the answer as
0.49%
Doing the formula =(84/204)
and the same steps for the format will display
41.18%

if you change the format custom to 0.###% you get
41.176%

ect. I am sure you understand hopefully this helps...
