Using an IF statement, I would like to produce a result in the cell which formats the text font to be bold and red with a yellow filled cell when the logic is true. Is that possible with excel?

On the Format menu, click Conditional Formatting.

Yes, use the Conditional Formatting feature within Excel. [Go to Tools, Conditional Formatting.] You have two options, either Cell Values Is or Formula Value Is. Either option could be used for an If statement. However, if your results are dependent on values of other cells and not the one you're in, then you must use Formula Value Is.

Really Excel does a great job explaining how to use the feature. It also provides some snippets of code, giving you examples about different ways the feature could be utilized. Just look at the Help menu in Excel.
