Excel survey totals formula

By M.R. ·
Excel gurus:
I want to create a survey form to send to 20 people to rate several questions 1-5 and then have a comments field.
Problem 1: How do I keep a running total?
First thought was to email each user the Excel question sheet and have a spinner point to a seperate single network sheet. This works but the user can't see what they have input, only the running total. Is there a way to push the users input to the network sheet and have it either dump to the next empty cell or add it to the running total and put the result in the same cell without circular probs?
Problem 2: How do I copy the comments input to the next available empty cell in the network sheet?

You could write some code that would take the users answers and write them to a master file (which would then be your tally point). In effect, users would answer the questions, then press a button (or send it back to you and you press the button), which writes the information to the log. It could also retreive the total information, if necessary.

There are other things to consider, such as anonymity, duplicate entries, etc., but in concept you can get that survey done. If this interests you, send me an e-mail and I can work with you on it.

You might also consider a web-based form, if you have access to a server. For 20 users you probably won't tax a machine running personal web server, even, and web-forms tend to be easier to upkeep/manage.

Didn't help but thanks for trying. Ended up with a writing a script to insert the data into a backend spreadsheet. Not as clean as I would have liked.
