Excel unwanted arrows in spreadsheet

By whytock ·
I cannot get rid of a series of arrows which appear next to a row of cells in a spreadsheet. I have tried everything I can think of (cut, delete, edit cells etc). When the arrow is clicked it highlights, but after that it does not respond to any command that I know of.

Is the arrow in the upper left corner of a cell and what kind of data is in the cell - ie date, number etc.? Are the arrows in a column or row?

These small arrows point to each cell from bottom right corner. I can select them and then drag them all over the s/s, I can lengthen and shorten them but I cannot delete them.

You mean the Fill Handle, the black square in the lower-right corner of the cell? Choose Options? from the Tool bar menu and hit Enter. Activate the Edit tab, check the Allow cell drag and drop box under Settings and hit Enter or click OK. This setting is saved with your workbook file.
- Usually arrow(s) are displayed on the upper-right corner of cell(s) contain Comment. Or, on the upper-left corner of error cell(s), arrow(s) are also shown.

Wow, I've never seen this. Could you send a portion of the s/s to me?
