Excel, xp pro, 5si, wont print grey font

By RG11 ·
I have a XP-pro machine printing locally to a HP 5si with the latest drivers and service packs. When I go into excel and try to print a grey font it will come out black. I can shade the cell grey and it will print grey, I just cant get the font to print any other color than black. Is there any way to correct this? We used to have win 98 and office 97 and the font would print grey?

I reproduced your problem
I have the same problem with this configuration:
- Windows XP Pro
- Excel 2000
- LaserJet 5

Apparent Excel 2000 problem
This appears to be a problem with Excel 2000 in my case. This problem did not occur in Word 2000.

Workaround via Adobe Acrobat
I found the following workaround: I printed from Excel 2000 to a PDF file using Adobe Acrobat PDFWriter (a printer driver included with Adobe Acrobat that creates a PDF file instead of writing to a printer). Then, I opened the PDF file with Acrobat Reader and printed it. The gray text printed gray.

Try updating the drivers for your printer.
