Excel xp slows to a crawl when saving

I’ve just upgraded a user on a ibm thinkpad to w2k and office xp. When they save a any file new or old it’s slows down while looking for somthing and then does the save. I’ve turned off NAV, closed all apps before saving, killed all TSR’s, upgraded to the most updated w2k sp, and one i’m running on a novell 5 network.
