Excell 2000

By johgre ·
Windows XP Pro crashed and resulted in my having to reinstall everything. Since doing this I am no longer able to access 10 out of 28 worksheet files that was stored on my D drive. The error message I get is as follows:

Cannot access read only xxxxx.xls
cannot access xxxxx.xls

When I go to properties for the files, it does not show the read only attribute set.

Is there anyway to recover these files?

John

have you tried opening a blank worksheet and importing the corrupt files?

I just tried that and it said I do not have permissions. What do I try now?

Check to see if your file has permissions applied to it, and whether the user-name you are using has enough permissions to access it. You can do this by going to the "Porperties" of that file, and going to the 'Permissions' tab. You can add your name there & give full permissions, re-login and see if it allows you to work.
You can try to copy that file to other location/folder and try to access them. One more thing you can try is to use "Open-With" and make sure that the file has not corruptedyet.
Hope this helps, best luck

I had already tried to copy the files which did not work. However when I added my username and applied full permission and rebooted I found that I could then access the files.

Thanks,
John
