Exch System manager wrong mailbox size

By Rackin ·
I have noticed that our exchange system manager on exchange 2000 sp3 on windows 2000 sp4 is misreporting the mailbox size of most mailboxes when compared to what outlook reports the size to be. We have a database that is about 14 GB, but the system manager is reporting a total of 6gb in size. I have looked at kb813880 and will be applying the patch this weekend. I will also run a isinteg to see if there are. Has anyone found any other reasons as to why system manager would report a bad mailbox size?

One final note. We have one mailbox that outlook reports a size for each folder that adds up to a lot larger then the size that it reports for the total size.

First of the database size is conprised of the .edb and the .stm files together.
Secondly apply the post service pack 3 rollup april 2004 KB 836488 which is the latest and not the september 2003 version.

Please run eseutil /d xxx.edb-> ( path to you .edb file) this utility requires 110 % free space of the size of the database.

After the above command is complete run the command isinteg -s (server name) -fix -test alltests.
This will fix up any logical errors in the database.

Any issues in the database should be resolved with these steps.

Please revert in case you need more help.

As I noted above I was already going to run isinteg this weekend to attempt to fix the problem. I did not need info on how to do an offline defrag on the database or the files that make up the size limit. My problem is that system manager and outlook are reporting different sizes on the same mailbox. I know that system manager is wrong as the total size of all mailboxes in system manager is about 2 gigs less then the stm file and the edb file minus the white space. I need to get system manager reporting the right size. Just as a note the ISinteg this weekend seems to have fixed the problem. I will keep watching it and close the message if it stays fixed.
