Exchange 2000 and AD problem

By hannahlovesbananas ·
I initially installed Exchange 2000 on the DC of our domain. As the Exchange Store grew, the DC didn't have enough memory or processing power to support it. I installed Exchange 2000 on a member server and moved the mailboxes to the member server.I removed Exchange from the DC. All was fine, but after a few days, the new Exchange server told me "the Global Catalog server for this domain cannot be found, please check network configuration". Now people sending mail to people inside our organization are getting undeliverables that say "the email address doesn't exist in the organization it was sent to."I can't seem to reestablish this connection, and im green to AD, can someone please help?

Check your DNS server. There is a svr record that defines where the GC is located at. Also make sure that the check box is still there to make that DC a Global Catalog srever.

If your running DNS in active directories it should be dynamic.

In order to have a svr record in DNS, don't i need to enable Dynamic DNS? I am currently running static. Is there a way without the DDNS?

Hello my friend, we had the same problem a month ago. Even though we made the new exchange server a global catalog server. But later we noticed that the undelivarable message comes only when user are trying to reply to messages before the change of servers. When they reply to messages before the change, they have to select contacts from the new list instead of using the addess that you get automatically when click on reply/or reply all....
As long as they choose the contacts from the list they shouldnot have any problem. but to all messages after the change there is no problem.
