Exchange 2000 IMS vs Conferencing Server

If Windows Instant Messenger provides the following:

Server solutions for Windows Messenger
Presence
Instant Messaging
Voice and Video
Application Sharing and Whiteboard
File Transfer
Remote Assistance

Why would the Conferencing Server be needed?
What does Conferencing Server provide that IMS does not?

Exchange 2000 IMS vs Conferencing Server

by [_Rick_> In reply to Exchange 2000 IMS vs Conf ...

IMS - Instant Messaging Service? Provides real time one-to-one communications between you and another person.

Netmeeting - provides video, audio, white boards, etc

The Conferencing server provides the ability of a Conference communication between one-to-several users, and provides the ability for the items you mentioned (white boards, video, audio, text, document sharing, etc). It also provides a means for the administrator to control the amount of bandwidth consumed, can control who can join a specific conference, ability to log transactions, and other features.
