Exchange 2003 and POP3 boxes

By sjp ·
I'm just giving Exchange a try after using various other mailservers. I know nothing about it, and I am learning as I go along.

Can exchange server be configured to collect mail from external POP3 boxes? I know SBS server can, but can the full Exchange do this?

Thanks,

Si

Yes it can. It can do POP 3 along with 4 others. I can't remember the other 4 right off my head, but I know it can do POP3 because that's what we have here.

It should be able to do
1) Microsoft Exchange Server (of course)
2) POP3
3) IMAP
4) HTTP
5) additional server types

Click start
Control panel
Double click the MAIL icon
Email accounts
Add a new email account
Select POP3
You will have to call your email provider and find out your incoming and outgoing email servers. Your network administrator will have those. Without that server information you can't set POP3 up. You can however set up hotmail retreval via just log-on information.

Exchange can be a POP3 server but to the best of my knowledge cannot be a POP3 client. By that I mean that users can POP in and grab their email using a client such as Outlook Express or even Outlook configured for just POP3.

Exchange will not POP into another server for example an ISP and download mail for users.
