Exchange 2003 Front End Question

By sschwartz ·
I have an existing Exchange 2003 environment with 2 Exchange Servers. Both host OWA and OMA. I wish to install a Front End Server in this environment. If I create a 3rd server, install Exchange, and then make it a Front End Server; will this break anythingn in my existing environment? I would like to do this and do some testing but I am concerned that selecting the Front End option might screw something up in the production environment.

Thanks

This should work...

I cannot say that it will not break anything as I do not know your entire environment, however, by design this should work. If you are making this move I would suggest that you also do the following:

Look really hard at ISA server. ISA is the only product that can proxy authentication for OWA so only authenticated queries will get to your Exchange server. Additionally, you can apply your SSL cert to ISA simplifying your OWA setup.

Read the following article for more information.
