    Exchange 2k3 NDR Error

    Hi,

    I have 2 Exchange 2003 servers in a single domain – staff and student. The staff mailing students get an NDR with the following error. Students are able to mail staffs without issues. Please help. Thanks in advance.

    A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients. Contact your administrator.

      Are the two servers in the same routing group?

      If so, check each SMTP virtual server, are they configured to forward ALL MAIL TO A SPECIFIC HOST ? If so then remove that, and add an SMTP Connector for outbound mail instead.

      By having the entry to forward all mail to a particular host, all outbound mail from the server will go to another server, that will see the mail as something which needs delivering, and it will send it back (possibly to the same server, causing a loop).
