Exchange 5.5

By GJ2008 ·
I'm trying to configure the Internet Mail Service in Exchange 5.5 but keep getting the following error: 'THE INTERNET MAIL SERVICE REQUIRES THE DNS DOMAIN NAME TO BE CONFIGURED ON EXCHANGE. TO CONFIGURE THE DOMAIN NAME, USE THE NETWORK ICON IN THE CONTROL PANEL ON EXCHANGE, OR SELECT ANOTHER SERVER.' Could someone please tell me how to get around this?

This may not be exactly the same as your model, but hopefully it will help and get you on the right track (remember to remove any spaces in the address).

Your server does not have a DNS server name in the TCP/IP properties of it's network properties. Right click on the Network icon on the desktop go to Properties, click the Protocols tab (assuming NT4 Server, if 2K server, right-click, go to Properties, then right-click your Local Area Connection and go to Properties again), click TCP/IP and click the Properties button, go to the DNS tab and enter the IP addresses of the DNS servers that you want to use for DNS name resolution - either an internal server if you have one, or your ISP's DNS servers if you are using them. Hope this helps!
