If you are looking on the actual recipient folder under exchange admin, check under the email addresses tab on the actual recipient. This will shouw you the actual address assigned to the user. It usually mirrors the alias I find.

Trying to search all of Exchange to find a address that already exists and find which mailbox/custom recipient has it.

If you know the alias you can do a find under exch admin.
select tools, find recipient add in the search criteria ie display name etc and search.

Have tried the above option but the search is only for the name etc on the gerneral tab of the mailbox. When entering the email address into a mailbox, Exchange will bring up a confilict if the address already exists. Currently in order to find this I'm having to take a guess at where the confilct is. Surely Exchange has the facility to search all mailboxes to determine what where the conflict is.
