Exchange 5.5 in Win2K domain

By asexton ·
I am preparing to upgrade our PDC to Win2k in our single domain structure, and will be running in mixed mode, probably indefinitely. Cannot find information about how this will affect our Exchange 5.5 server, if at all.
Any advice will be appreciated.

There should be no problems with this. As long as your service account and user accounts are intact and can authenticate, you should be good to go. Mixed mode should leave account info as is so there is no issue.

As always, though, back your PDC up every which way before you make the change, just in case something goes wrong.

Just as an FYI, Mixed vs Native Mode only affects DC's. Mixed mode allows NT4 BDC to be part of the domain, by inforcing "restrictions to AD" which allow AD to successfully replicate with NT4. Native mode simply removes these restrictions and allows the DC's to operate in native mode. NT3.5x/NT4/9x machines still work fine.
So the moral of the story is even in Native mode you Exchange 5.5 environment works fine and doesnt care if its an NT4 SAM or a Win2k AD.
Its just that once its AD you should use the ADC to sync the directories.

We are runing Windows 2000 Active Directory in mixed mode at my company. No problems whatsoever running Exchange 5.5. Also - this is true when in Native Mode.
