Exchange 5.5 on Server 2003

By jdroba ·
We run a Lotus Notes house but I have one holdout user (a Doctor) with an Exchange 5.5 server running on a Windows 2000 Server. We are migrating the network from WINNT4.0 Domain to Active Directory Domain. The server is not being upgraded to Server 2003. Is Exchange 5.5 going to work still or do I need to be upgrading to a newer version of Exchange?

If I am reading this right you are upgrading to a 2003 AD domain and you want to know if Exchange 5.5 on a 2000 Server will work in a 2003 domain?

YES, all exchange versions will run in an AD 2003 environment. Exchange 5.5 has an ADC specifically for an Exchange 5.5/ AD 2003 environment.

You CANNOT upgrade the Exchange 5.5 server to Windows 2003 server.

Do I have to modify anything in Exchange for this to work?

You need to enable Microsfot Active Directory Connector if you want to move stuff. Other than that it will work. I had this setup for a few weeks when i was migrating.

4 exchange 5.5 and 2 Exchange 2003 on a Active Directory. (after migrating from NT domain).
