Exchange problem

I have an Exchange 2K server that was a rebuild after a crash. The crash was on another server and I spent 18 hours on the phone with Microsoft trying to recover a corrupted database and rebuild it on a new server. The recovery was a success. None of the data was lost. However, the old server died a slow and agonizing death. Ever since the new server was put into use, my users get an error message that says "Unable to update free/busy data" whenever they make an appointment on their calendars. I have tried most of the 8 different articles that Microsoft (and 3 I found elsewhere)has to solve this problem. None have worked so far, including demoting the old server as Routing Master and promoting the new one as such. I haven't tried the last two because MS says that these 2 are not recommended and could mess up the server even more. Any suggestions?
