Exchange Server not found

Recently rebuilt new Exchange Server 5.5 sp4 on Win2K Server sp2. A Single pc cannot resolve to the new server yet I can ping both IP and netbios and navigate shared folders on new server. Have tried removing, reinstalling TCP/IP, Office 2000, Outlook 2000. No change. Any ideas out there?

If you can ping successfully using both the IP address and host name, then it IS resolving correctly through DNS. How are you using the term "resolve?" What kind of error indications are you seeing? Are all other users connecting satisfactorily? Can this user connect to his mailbox from another computer? What is the operating system on the computer with the problem? If you are using NT or Win2K, are there any Error or Warning messages in either the System or Application log on the aaffected computer?

Delete the computer account and recreate it i.e take the PC out of the domain and re-add.

If it is a mailbox error it could be a mailbox SID corruption. Copy the content of the mailbox to a 'pst' file, delete the mailbox, recreate it with the same properties, copy content back from 'pst' and job should be done.

There are no errors in the event log. The pc is Windows 2000 Pro sp2. I can ping ip and netbios names, access shared folders etc. Only message is that could not connect to Exchange server. Everyone else in company has functioning Outlook (thank heaven). I can also not open Exchange Administrator-not surprisingly, with same message: cannot find or connect to E Server.

You have checked that the Outlook Profile on the machine in question is using the correct server name?

Chris.

Problem may be in the RPC Binding Order. Outlook will use this in order to contact the Exchange Server. Startup Regedit.exe and navigate to : HKeyLocalMachine - Software - Microsoft - Exchange - Exchange Provider & change the binding order so that ncacn_ip_tcp is in the beginning of the phrase.

Example:
RPCBindingOrder :

ncacn_ip_tcp,ncalrpc,ncacn_spx,ncacn_np,netbios,ncacn_vns_spp

An other problem can be that there is different information in the hosts. or lmhosts. file in de <windir>\system32\drivers\etc folder. Look here also en delete any wrong ip addresses and or names.
