Exchange Server upgrade/migration

Looking for instructions/guide to migrate/upgrade from Exchange Server 5.5 on NT 4.0 on one machine to Exchange Server 2000 on Win2000 on a different machine (using personal folders, not server mailboxes) I would think this should be so simple, but at the same time would like to make it as painless as necessary--- the K.I.S.S. principle...

The easiest method is to do a stright upgrade of the machine to Win2k then Exchange 2K. I actually bought the TechRepublic Exchanger server migration book and it was quite helpful. It explains the three methods too upgrade your system in in real world terminology. I would give it a look. But like i said it can get complicated if you do anything other than an upgrade.

You can do an inplace upgrade, but you must meet certain criteria. Such as your DB's very clean and have not been upgrades from EX4.0 days etc...
Depending on how many users you have, time line, and budget will determine which method you use.
