Exchange to Exchange SBS conversion

By bryanbph ·
We currently run a full version of exchange 2003. I want to convert our company over to Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 due to the many features and benefits we will gain. We are a company of 20 employees.

Is there a recommended method for moving all of the pub, priv, and dir information from the standard version of exchange to the sbs version? Can I do a standard restore or is there differences in the way the databases are structred between the two different versions?

This is bad news times. Windows 2003 SBS must be the root of the Active Directory forest. Windows 2003 SBS cannot trust any other domains. Windows 2003 SBS cannot have child domains.

As the Exchange organization exists in the root of the current Active Directory forest and SBS cannot trust another domain, you cannot migrate your current Exchange environment to a SBS-based one. Thus, you cannot migrate.

Time for a new plan....
