Exchjange Server 5.5

By dmoore ·
I am having some problems which just pop up out of the blue. For some reason our staff on the road can't seem to check their email. This is related to a POP3 issue. The message reads
<insert>
"There was a problem logging onto your mail server.Your User Name was rejected. Account: 'smtp.rpindustries.com', Server: 'smtp.rpindustries.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC91
<end insert>

I was able to telnet into the mail server port 110 successfully with a message "+OK POP3 server ready". The message above shows up when a user can't seem to get authorized to access the server. It keeps asking for the password. I have check all the users account and no lock outs. Anyone from the outside can't check the mail. So it's not just one user..

Any thoughts?

The 2 error messages deal with:

0x800CCC90 POP3_RESPONSE_ERROR Client response invalid.

0x800CCC91 POP3_INVALID_USER_NAME Invalid user name or user not found.

It sounds like an authentication issue?

Below is an example of a typical POP3 session between a client and a Microsoft Exchange Server. This session uses the Microsoft Windows NT Telnet application with the Local Echo option enabled. This example assumes the user has connected to port 110 on the Microsoft Exchange Server.Try this and see if you can actually check the mail.

+OK Microsoft Exchange POP3 server version 5.0 ready

+OK User successfully logged on

+OK 3 789

Try having the users put in their username in the form of:

domain\username

If this still doesn't work verify that your ISP has the correct mapping for your mail server ('smtp.rpindustries.com').

I am the ISP... I host all the mail.
