explorer.exe has generated an error and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log 1s being created.

I click Ok and open it again the same thing happens.

Are you using IE6? If you are then there is no cure for this. The only way it can be fixed is to fresh install your OS, another way is to stop surfing using IE, use another search engine like Netscape or Mozilla.

I get this when I am looking for documents on my machine. I am not on the web using IE. I am using explorer to search within my computer & folders.

I am using IE 5.5 not IE6. Any other suggestions?

Sorry, but I concur with Answer #1. The only way to permanently get rid of this error is to reformat that hdd and freshly install the OS.

Your registry is having problems. Your computer needs a fresh install. This error is probably the beginning of many other Windows errors that you will encounter until you put a fresh install.

As a second solution (depending on which OS version you are using), you may be able to extract explorer.exe from the WIndows cd-rom and replace that corrupt file... and run fine thereafter. But the file got corrupted somehow and you will probably encounter other such errors.

Good luck.

I am running W2k and just did a format and clean install on this disk. This was working fine up until last week. I can go to other folders but cannot search. I am using IE5.5.

Then it is not your IE5.5 that is the problem but your Windows Explorer. Whenever you search inside your program it is being done by Windows Explorer. Like if you click on an icon, your screen will turn blue and then back on again and you can open an icon?
Well the only way really is to fresh install, clean your HDD. But you said you did, sorry to ask you this, but are you using an original OS Win2K? Your disc must be the problem.
