Exporting in Outlook 2000

When I want to export the inbox to an external file, lets say Excel (but it doesn’t matter which format I use)I am unable to include the “received date” of the e-mail. Am I missing it in the mapping or is that a flaw in Microsoft’s programming? It presents a major problem when the e-mail is restored to a new install of Outlook. Is there a way around this if the date does not exist when mapping to the external file? This is also true of the Sent box and drafts. The backup and .pst files donot seem to carry over the date either. Thanks for any help with this issue.
