External Hard drive for Smart TV

Hi, I am trying to find a way to to store and play movie files through my Hisense smart tv. Preferably I would like to leave an external hard drive connected via usb into my Tv that I can transfer file wirelessly from my MacBook without moving the hard drive. Is this possible and if so what is the best hardware to purchase? Thanks

That is, I’ve never found a run of the mill smart TV to offer such features.

You have the Apple MacBook so what about an Apple TV plus a HDD for those files?

First try with any standard external disk or USB stick. If you can copy a movie to it on your Mac and play it on your TV, you know if the principle works. Then choose a nice wireless disk. The manual of the TV will tell the requirements of the disk/stick (like connection, file system and size).

Note that wireless speed isn’t very fast, so copying a file wirelessly will take some time.

Maybe the OP could get a TIVO or similar product to achieve their goal. I have never heard of a TV that allows for an external HD to be attached in the way the OP wants. Another idea would be to Cast directly to the smart TV from the computer. I can send streaming video from either my tablet or smartphone via Wifi to my smart TV.
