extract data to txt file

By dka ·
a vendor submitted a database file (.dbf) which contains two fields i'm interested in. the fileds are X & Y. the values in these fields are integers. i'd like to extract the X & Y values for each record to a single comma delimited text file. MS Access 2000 is the only software i own that can read the file. any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

use access to select the 2 fields for all records, then tell it to export as a text file.

or, if possible with access, dump as sql query, then remove the data un-needed from the dump.
even if the dump has an .sql extention is it just a plain text file.

I can't tell from your post if you don't have Access or don't want to use it. Access can import/export dbf files. There are also any number of commercial and freeware apps to view/import/export dbf files. A freeware app that I use is Exportizer. Check it out here:

You could posibly try to use Excel's command Data - Get External data and create a new database query that extracts the info you need. Excel 2000 and later can use .dbf-format files to extract data so it seems posible if you know the names of the fields youre looking for.
