Extremely Qualified lacking experience

by wtbfocussed . Updated 23 years, 11 months ago

I have worked in the IT industry for 11 months after completing my MCSE, A+ and CCNA. I was doing very well on a contract but the company had to cut staff because it lost a major contract. The first persons to go of course are the contractors. Believe it or not I was offering level three support with quite a decent salary.

Added to this, I have an MBA and have quite a bit of experience in Marketing and Accounting. The accounting experience was achieved in the Caribbean earlier in my carreer after my first degree. My job prior to this was as a professor (lecturer) at a University (my graduate experience).

I migrated to North America two years ago and that is when I decided to do some IT training and make the switch to IT.

I am finding it difficult to get a new job in IT. I am even trying to get a job in training. Of the jobs that are advertised on the various sites, the recruiters are asking for a lot of experience: at least three (3) years.

I am over 40 and I am very experienced in the business field.

I am thinking now that perhaps I should switch. But switch again? that would seem as if I am not focussed.

I do very well at anything I put my hands to because I am a very focussed worker.

Does anyone in this community have a suggestion for how I could get back in the market? or what do you suggest?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
