Facebook content moderators are suffering from PTSD

By tcavadias Staff ·
In a recent CNET article, a new lawsuit alleges Facebook fails to protect moderators who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder after viewing violent and disturbing content people attempt to post on the social network.

The lawsuit, filed on Sept. 12 in state superior court in San Mateo County, California, says Facebook content moderators working under contracts have to look at thousands of "videos, images and live-streamed broadcasts of child sexual abuse, rape, torture, bestiality, beheadings, suicide and murder" every day, according to a press release.

What are your thoughts about this lawsuit? Should the class action move forward? Let's discuss in the comments below!

if memory serves correctly, these are paid staff moderators, and they knew beforehand the types of content they would be exposed to. My viewpoint...the lawsuit should NOT go forward, and be dismissed.

Now, as to the content I'm in contact with HERE...hmmm. No, just joking, I have enjoyed my moderator duties, and hope I've managed to keep the spam and offensive posts to a minimum so that our members can enjoy the full benefits of our forums!

I believe that they should have fully expected the worst, and this weird lawsuit should be dismissed.
