Been looking for a good faxserver software for NT any suggestions and also best practice for using a single modem or is it better to get multiple lines? Thanks.

Faxserver

I've used two different packages - Accpac's Faxserve (used to by Cheyenne, then Computer Associates, then Accpac), and Zetafax from Equisys. Both have their problems, mostly initial configuration issues. Once they are configured, they both work pretty well. Faxserve seems to me to have smoother configuration with Exchange and Outlook if you use them for email. With the Faxserve for Exchange option (additonal couple of hundred bucks) your users can fax directly from Exchange; faxing from applications that are not email compliant (i.e., apps that don't link into Outlook through ActiveX controls) requires installation of a program locally that installs a printer driver. However it all works pretty well.

As far as the number of modems, it all depends on the number of users and the activity involved. If you're shooting for never or rarely having a busy line, you'll obviously have to over-configure. I've never used either app on a network larger than 80-90 users. I would say one modem per 20-30 users is probably a pretty good ratio, but again it all depends on how much they fax and whether you are both sending and receiving over the network or only doing one or the other. Hope this helps!
