File properties dialog box not showing

When I right click on a disk or file in Windows Explorer and select sharing or properties, the dialog box never comes up (and the selection highlight reverts to the previous selection). Don’t know if this relates, but recently I have shared drives (partitions) and since then removed that drive. Anyone know how to fix this?
