Fire Suppression System

By mandms7 ·
We're moving into a new building at the end of the year. I'd like to find out what our options are when it comes to fire suppression systems. Is Halon still the system to get, or are there other technologies that are preferable today?

Fire suppression alternatives

by jattas In reply to Fire Suppression System

A few things you will have to look into. Halon is still being installed, even though it has been declared a hazardous material. If you recall it originally was used to put out a fire by snuffing out the oxygen in a room for a short period. It was considered safe for humans, because it was short lived. However Halon itself is a contaminent. There are several new alternatives to this chemical. Most boat owners are aware of them, because Halon has been taken off the marine market. If you can't get a straight answer out of your Fire Suppression Vender, ask about the alternative chemicals that are "global warming safe". They are there.
